HISTORY:

Founded by the stationer Claus-Johannes Voss,
the banker Alfred Nehemias and the engineer August Eberstein in 1908, the
company began as the Simplo Filler Pen company producing up-market pens in the
Schanzen district of Hamburg. Their first model was the Rouge et Noir in
1909 followed in 1910 by the pen that was later to give the company its new
name, Montblanc. The Meisterstück name (English: “Masterpiece,” the
name used for export) was used for the first time in 1924, for the top lines of
fountain pens. Today, the Montblanc brand is on other goods besides pens, including watches, jewelery,
fragrances, leather goods and eyewear.

The company was successful despite one of its
founders, Eberstein, fleeing to the US to avoid prosecution for stealing
company funds in 1909. In 1934 the company changed its name to Montblanc-Simplo
GmbH, and introduced its first piston filler.

The company was acquired by Dunhill
in 1977, following which lower price pens were dropped and the brand was used
on a wide range of luxury goods other than pens.[1]

Today Montblanc forms part of the Richemont
group. Its sister companies include luxury brands Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Chloé, and Baume
et Mercier. Montblanc is owned, through Richemont, by the South African
Rupert Family.

Up for auction is a beautiful, authentic, MONTBLANC Voltaire
Limited Edition Ballpoint Pen. This pen was purchased by myself in 1995 for $450
and has been stored in a multi-pen “drawer” as part of my personal pen
collection in my smoke and pet free home and has rarely been used.

The Edition:

The Writers Edition Voltaire seems to
reflect the fascinating personality of Voltaire in every detail. The surface of
black precious resin appears just as unfathomable as his thoughts. The engraved
mountings and the cap top in vermeil – gold-plated 925 sterling silver – are as
rich as the possessions of Voltaire, whose gold-colored signature decorates the
cap of the pen. The 18-karat gold nib, made by a master craftsman, is finished
off by delicate engravings reminiscent of the age of Voltaire.

About The Author:

Voltaire and his immense body of
work, including comedies, philosophical discourses and letters, are
unparalleled in modern times. Although even in his early years he came into
conflict with the authorities because of the belligerency of his writings, his dramatic
talent – which he used to create works such as “Candide” – made him one of the
most acclaimed literary figures of his time.

is a beautiful Montblanc Voltaire 1995 Limited Edition Fountain Pen:

It is a large Montblanc fountain pen at 5
7/8 inches long. The nib is 18k gold with decorative trim and 4810, 1995,
MONTBLANC, 750 and 18K
stamped on it. The cap has the trademark white snowcap with a beautiful
decorative gold dome. The pen has been thoroughly cleaned and is in fantastic
condition. This is a GORGEOUS, LARGE PEN.
